Breakfast in Bečići, the Georgian Way: Our Morning Menu by the Beach

Bečići mornings move at their own speed. The beach fills slowly, the promenade smells of coffee and salt, and nobody is in a hurry — which is exactly the pace breakfast was invented for. We open at 10:00 every day, right when a proper holiday morning gets going, and the first pots and pans in our kitchen belong to the breakfast menu.

Here's what a Georgian morning by the Adriatic looks like.

The Georgian breakfast

The set that answers the question in its own name. Shakshuka

Eggs poached straight in a simmering tomato-and-pepper sauce, arriving still bubbling. It reached the Adriatic by way of half the Mediterranean, and it survived the journey for one reason: bread plus that sauce is one of breakfast's perfect equations. Ours comes off the same stove the kharcho will simmer on a few hours later.

Syrniki with berries

Golden cottage-cheese pancakes — crisp edges, soft middle, berries on top. If you grew up anywhere the Black Sea touches, this is the taste of summer mornings at your grandmother's table. If you didn't, consider this your formal introduction to the pancake the rest of the pancake world doesn't want you to know about.

Two porridges that don't apologise

• Oatmeal with bacon and parmesan — porridge, but savoury: smoky bacon and sharp cheese folded into oats. The breakfast for people who think they don't like oatmeal.
• Buckwheat with chicken and cheese cream — dark, nutty buckwheat under a rich cheese cream. Comfort food from the eastern half of Europe, dressed up for a seaside morning.

And if your morning speaks another language entirely, there's a German breakfast on the menu too. We don't judge. We just cook.

When and where

Breakfast starts when the doors open — 10:00, every day of the week — and the kitchen runs until 22:00, so a late morning here can turn into lunch without anyone noticing. You'll find us right on the Bečići promenade, across from Hotel SkyLine, with a big parking lot next door if you're driving over — it's about 15 minutes from Budva. Take a terrace table and you get the sea view with your coffee at no extra charge.
